Men's Golf trio Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

Thursday, July 21, 2011

NORMAN, Okla. (July 21, 2011) – ETSU men’s golf trio Devin Komline (Dorset, Vermont), Paul O’Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland), and Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.) have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Asssociation of America (GCAA) announced today.

Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II and the NAIA were announced by the GCAA, and a total of 138 players in Division I, 49 in Division II and three in NAIA earned the honor.

O’Kane received the award for the second straight season and becomes just the third ETSU student-athlete to receive the award in back-to-back years. Gareth Shaw became the first Buccaneer to receive the award in two-straight season as he won the honor in both 2007 and 2008. Seamus Power became the second to twice earn the award as he was the recipient in 2009 and 2010.

In addition to his work in the classroom, O’Kane was named Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun after leading the squad with a 73.9 stroke average, while earning three top-25 finishes. His best finish was a 13th place showing at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational, which helped propel the Bucs to the team championship in the event. He also earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors on March 24 after knocking off the nation’s No. 1 ranked player, Patrick Cantlay of UCLA, at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play.

First time winners, Komline and Wilson join O’Kane, Power, Shaw, Rhys Enoch and Eamon Brady (1999) as the only ETSU golfers to receive the prestigious honor.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
