JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 19, 2011) – ETSU head volleyball coach Lindsey Devine recently announced the hiring of Michelle Piantadosi and Lauren Baufield as assistant coaches for the upcoming 2011 season.

“I believe that both of these young coaches have a bright future in this profession and I am excited for our team to be able to capitalize on their strengths,” said Devine.

Piantadosi, a former All-American at the University of Tennessee and professional beach volleyball player, started her coaching career in 2006 at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She spent four seasons at NSU and was primarily responsible for recruiting and the development of the outside and middle hitters.

In 2008, Piantadosi helped the Sharks achieve their best season in program history. Not only did she coach NSU to their second consecutive NCAA berth, but NSU captured its first ever NCAA South Regional Title to advance further than any team in program history. The Sharks again advanced to the NCAA South Regional in 2009, their third straight trip to the tournament.

Piantadosi helped the Sharks reach unprecedented heights in her second year at NSU. In 2007, the Sharks had a 15-win improvement over the previous year, a second place finish in the competitive Sunshine State Conference, and the program’s first berth and win in the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament.

In her first season in 2006, the Sharks notched 11 victories, which eclipsed the win total of the previous two seasons combined. During the season, NSU also fashioned an impressive four-match sweep on the road in the C.W. Post Tournament in early September.

Piantadosi arrived at Nova Southeastern following a stellar four-year career at the University of Tennessee, where she was a two-year captain. During her time with the Lady Vols, she was a four-year starter and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors after her senior season, while also being selected to the USA Volleyball A2 team.

Following her career at UT, Piantadosi extended her playing career by playing professionally in Austria and Puerto Rico.

During her collegiate and professional careers, she held various coaching positions such as heading up a high school and two beginner level teams in Austria as well as working three years at the UT summer volleyball camps and two years with Coach Devine at the ETSU camps.

Additionally, Piantadosi has coached the U-18 Elite Boomers volleyball club, a local club program in Broward County (Fla.).

She holds a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee.

“Michelle has played at a very high level,” said Devine. “With her knowledge of the game, and her competitive nature, she will continue to add strength to what I’ve already established here at ETSU.”

Baufield joins the coaching staff after a stellar playing career with the Buccaneer volleyball program. A native of Plymouth, Minnesota, Baufield was a four-year letterwinner for the Bucs from 2007-10 and was also a team captain for the squad in 2010.

In her four-year playing career that included 113 matches, Baufield amassed 743 digs, 519 kills, 113 assists, 83 service aces, and 76 blocks.

In addition to her solid numbers, Baufield also earned the annual Buc Heart Award three straight times. The award, which is given annually at the ETSU volleyball banquet, honors a member of the team that shows the most heart, passion, and determination.

A three-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic honoree, Baufield earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management in the spring of 2011.

“This is the first time I have had a former player join my staff,” said Devine. “I feel that Lauren knows exactly where I want this program to go.  She was a fierce competitor on the court and always brought a great amount of energy to our team.”
