Buccaneer coaches, staff, student-athletes, and BASA members appeared in Jonesborough and Elizabethton on Saturday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 2, 2011) – Members of BASA (Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association), the ETSU athletic office, and Bucky marched its way through Jonesborough and Elizabethton on Saturday morning as the Bucs participated in multiple Fourth of July parades to honor the holiday and spread Buccaneer Pride across the communities.

The day began with the Buccaneer float appearing in downtown Jonesborough as attendees cheered loudly for ETSU items which were being handed out and tossed into the large crowds. Several items being handed out included T-Shirts, hand bags, candy, pennants, foam swords, and the push towards increased numbers in social media followers via Facebook (ETSU Buccaneer Athletics) and Twitter (ETSUAthletics). Following the Jonesborough celebration, the Buccaneer caravan cruised their way into Elizabethton with the same strategy in hand.

“Today’s event offered us a great way to reach out to our fan base, while also giving back to the community as we rewarded them with these special giveaways,” commented Sara Hacker, Assistant Director of Marketing, Promotions and Event Management. “To be able to have our Buccaneer presence felt among the large crowds in both Jonesborough and Elizabethton is an invaluable experience. Hopefully our current fans enjoyed spreading the Buccaneer cheer, while also having the chance to increase our fan base.”

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.

The Fourth of July Buccaneer festivities will be carried over to One12 Downtown in Johnson City on Sunday afternoon as ETSU fans can cheer on baseball standout Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) – who will be attempting to keep the TD AMERITRADE College Home Run Derby title in Johnson City. The derby will be aired at 2 p.m. on CBS.
