Stetson bounces ETSU baseball from A-Sun Tourney with 7-2 loss
Derek Bushey Thursday, May 26, 2011 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 26, 2011) - The Stetson Hatters ended the ETSU baseball team's chances of an Atlantic Sun tournament championship Thursday as the Bucs were eliminated from the tournament after falling to the No.1 seeded Hatters 7-2 at Dugan Field on the campus of Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.
Stetson's Will Dorsey went 6.2 innings in the win striking out nine with two walks to improve to 7-5, while Derek Bushey was tabbed with his fifth loss of the year after surrendering five runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.
The Bucs (36-21, 16-12 A-Sun) were outhit 10-7 in the contest by the Hatters (41-17, 23-7 A-Sun). Stetson's Mitchel Brennan led all hitters going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) led ETSU offensively going 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
The Hatters grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an infield single by Spencer Theisen.
Green evened the contest at 1-all in the top of the third as his single to left center plating John Long (Anderson, S.C.) from second, but Stetson would get the run back in the bottom half of the frame on a solo home run to left by Ben Carhart.
The Bucs pulled even again in the fifth after Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) came around to score on a couple throwing errors by catcher Nick Rickles.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Hatters jumped back in front 5-2 after plating three runs on three hits highlighted by a two-run double by Brennan.
Stetson added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single by pinch hitter Robert Bruce and wild pitch that scored Brennan from third to make the final 7-2.
