ETSU Baseball clinches series against Campbell with 13-1 win in game one of doubleheader

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 14, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team run-ruled Campbell in game one of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon 13-1, as the Bucs won their third straight series and moved head coach Tony Skole one game back of his 400th career win.
 
Starter Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) improved to 6-3 on the year for the Bucs (33-17, 14-10 A-Sun) after limiting the Camels (16-34, 2-24 A-Sun) to one run on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
 
Campbell's Frank Zier suffered the loss after giving up 12 runs (11 earned) on ten hits with a strikeout and three walks in 3.1 innings of work.
 
The Buccaneers outhit the Camels 12-7 on the afternoon. Four starters posted multiple hits in the contest led by Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) who was 2-for-3 with a triple, scored two runs and drove in four.
 
Ellis Lowe put the Camels in front 1-0 in the top of the first with a leadoff home run to right center.
 
In the bottom half of the first, the Bucs took a 2-1 lead on Paul Hoilman's (Johnson City, Tenn.) 19th home run of the season. Hoilman drove a 2-0 fastball over the left field fence for a two-run homer.
 
ETSU increased its lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the second. After an RBI single by Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) gave the Bucs a 3-1 advantage, Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) crushed a three-run homer to right for his 14th home run of the year. Green's single increased his hit streak to 12 games.
 
The Bucs added three runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run triple by Scruggs and a RBI single by Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) to make the score 9-1.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Buccaneers ran their advantage to 12-1 after an error by Kyle Holmstrom and a two-run single by Scruggs.
 
Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) pushed across the final run for the Bucs in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center scoring catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) to make the final 13-1.
