CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 13, 2011) - Facing its toughest test of the season, the ETSU women's tennis team fell to No. 4-ranked North Carolina, 4-0, Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

North Carolina (24-5), the Atlantic Coast Conference champions, jumped out to a quick start in doubles, using the All-America duo and No. 7-ranked doubles team of Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale to cruise past Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) on court one, 8-1.

Jelena Durisic and Tessa Lyons then defeated the ETSU duo of Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Marine Wieliczko (Rouen, France) at No. 2, 8-3, to clinch the doubles point.

In singles competition, No. 13-ranked Zoe De Bruycker did not drop a game in blanking Holtzhausen, 6-0, 6-0, to give the Tar Heels a quick 2-0 lead.

Featherston was not far behind at No. 3, finishing off Wieliczko in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to move UNC within a point of the second round for a 10th consecutive season.

Durisic completed the sweep on court two, winning the final eight games of her match with Jaime en route to a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

The Lady Bucs close out the season with a 15-7 overall record after winning its third Atlantic Sun Tournament title. The team also won the outright A-Sun regular season championship after finishing with an impressive 9-1 conference mark.

Saturday morning will see Carolina meet Washington, a 4-0 winner over Maryland in the first match of the day. The match is set to begin outside at 11 a.m.
