JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 23, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team ended a six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon as senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) lifted the Bucs to a 7-3 win over Kennesaw State in the series finale at Cardinal Park.

Hoilman ignited the ETSU offense in the contest going 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, scored three runs and drove in four. Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) also had good days at the plate for the Bucs as Scruggs was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Trent also had two hits and scored twice.

Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) posted another strong start in the win for the Buccaneers (23-15, 12-10 A-Sun) limiting the Owls (24-19, 11-9 A-Sun) to three runs on seven hits with a season-high seven strikeouts.

Kennesaw State starter Josh Carr was tabbed with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

In the bottom of the second, Scruggs singled in Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) from second to put ETSU in front 1-0. The Bucs added another run in the next at-bat as Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) plated Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) on a sacrifice fly to right to make the score 2-0.

Andy Chriscaden hit his second home run of the series in the top of the third as he sent a three-run homer to right to give the Owls a 3-2 lead.

Hoilman then tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the fourth as he led off the inning with his 11th home run of the season.

The Bucs regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Hoilman to take a 4-3 edge. Later in the inning, Scruggs added to the Buccaneer advantage as he singled in Hoilman from second to make the score 5-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hoilman crushed his second homer of the game to left giving the Bucs a couple insurance runs to go ahead 7-3.

Dak Rissman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was good out of the bullpen for ETSU throwing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to close out the game. Rissman allowed just one hit while striking out two Owls.

The Bucs are back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they head to Richmond, Ky. for a two-game mid-week series against Eastern Kentucky. For more information on Buccaneer baseball, visit ETSUBucs.com or follow the Bucs on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ETSUAthletics.
