JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 19, 2011) - ETSU volleyball honored several players at its annual banquet Monday night inside the East Tennessee Room at the D.P. Culp Center.
Student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and friends gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2010 ETSU volleyball team.
The Bucs finished the season with an impressive 26-9 record. The 26 wins were the most by the program since the 1978 season. In addition, ETSU advanced to the A-Sun Championship match for the first time since 2005. The Bucs also succeeded in the classroom after earning the AVCA Team Academic Award, which recognizes teams that compile at least a cumulative team GPA of 3.30 or higher.
Senior middle block Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) was the big award winner of the night as she took home Team MVP and Defensive MVP honors. Long, a First-Team All-Atlantic Sun selection following the season, led the A-Sun in blocks and hitting percentage. In addition, she finished the season ranked 26th in the nation in blocks per set. Long also set the school record for career hitting percentage (.327).
Senior Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) earned the team's Academic Award. Ryan has the highest GPA on the squad, while also earning a spot on the A-Sun All-Academic Team for her fourth consecutive year.
For the third straight season, senior and co-captain Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) took home the Buc Heart Award.
The awards concluded with senior and local product Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) earning the Coaches Award. Cogburn was named Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun following the season after leading the team in assists (1241), while ranking second on the squad in service aces (31), and third in blocks (112) and hitting percentage (.220).
