DELAND, Fla. (April 13, 2011) - The ETSU women's golf team was unable to pull off a comeback in the third and final round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, watching as host Stetson took advantage of its home-course advantage Wednesday to win by 12 strokes over second place Campbell at the Victoria Hills Golf Club.

The Buccaneers, who entered the day just three strokes back of first place, struggled in the final round and were never able to make a run at the leaders. By contrast, Stetson posted a final round score of 291, which was 12 strokes better than any other team on the day, and ended the event at 894.

ETSU finished the tournament tied for third with Kennesaw State at 917.

"It's disappointing that we weren't able to put three rounds together," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "I was still really proud of how our team overcame adversity this year and worked hard. We had great improvements during the spring, and even though we didn't reach our ultimate goal of advancing to regionals or nationals, I'm still very happy with what this group accomplished."

Stetson ultimately swept the event, as the Hatters' Alex Buelow captured the individual title thanks to a three-round score of 216 (71-74-71). Buelow finished five strokes better than Florida Gulf Coast's Fabienne Haremza.

ETSU was led by freshman Larissa Steinfeldt (Eschweiler, Germany), who finished tied for seventh at 226 (75-73-78). Other ETSU results included a tie for 14th by senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria), and a tie for 15th for freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England). Senior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) ended the event tied for 25th.
