Men's tennis blanks Florida Gulf Coast, 7-0

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 25, 2011) - The ETSU men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight Atlantic Sun Conference victory as the Bucs shut out Florida Gulf Coast, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
 
With the win ETSU improves to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in A-Sun play, while the Eagles fall to 3-15 overall and 1-7 in league play.
  
ETSU jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after taking the opening doubles point. The ETSU pair of Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) and Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) defeated the FGCU team of Dean Tsamas and Carlo Checchia, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) and Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) then rolled past Mitchell Lvovsky and Matthew Rock, 8-2, at the No. 2 spot.
 
The Bucs continued the strong play in singles. Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela), playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Rock, 6-1, 4-0, before Rock retired.
 
At the No. 2 position, ETSU freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) blanked Steve Binninger, 6-0, 6-0. Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) knocked off Carlo Checchia at the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 7-6.
 
Akser defeated Tsamas at the No. 4 position, 7-6, 6-2, while freshman Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) rolled past Mitchell Lvovsky, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot.
 
The Bucs will look for a weekend sweep as they host Stetson tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. The match will be played on campus at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
