Lawson leads men's golf on day one of General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Mar. 13, 2011) -
ETSU freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) fired a second round 3-under 69 and he is one of only five players in the field under par through two rounds in the General Hackler Championship at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. Lawson is tied for fourth place at 1-under (74-69143).
 
The Bucs are in eighth place after two rounds of play in the 17-team field at 600 (+24) overall. ETSU, the defending champions of the event, followed up a first round 309 (+21) with an impressive round of 291 (+3) in the second round. The 291 in round two was the third best team score of the entire event thus far.
 
Lawson fired a first round 74 before posting the 3-under-par second round. The second round 69 was the second best score of the entire day. Lawson's second round included five birdies and two bogeys.
 
No. 18 Virginia (583) holds the team lead followed by Tennessee (594), tournament host Coastal Carolina (594), Auburn (597), No. 15 Augusta State (597), Pepperdine (598), East Carolina (599), ETSU (600), North Florida (604), College of Charleston (607), Lamar (608), USC-Upstate (619), Wake Forest (622), Charleston Southern (628), Presbyterian (631), Gardner-Webb (647) and Western Carolina (653).
 
Lamar's Kevin Hesbois (4-under) holds the individual lead followed by Virginia's Amory Davis (2-under) and Coastal Carolina's Sebastian Soderburg (2-under) tied for second.
 
ETSU senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) had a solid day and is tied for 13th at 147 (+3). O'Kane recorded a solid first round 74 before following that up with a 73.

Devin Komline
(Dorset, Vermont) had the most up and down day for the Bucs as he recorded a very impressive 1-under 71 in round two, which followed an opening round 80. Komline is at +7 overall and is tied for 25th.
 
Freshman Lucas Armstrong (Church Hill, Tennessee) and sophomore Patrick Spraggs (Rochford, England) also competed for the Bucs. Armstrong is tied for 67th (83-78161) while Spraggs is tied for 74th (81-80161) after two rounds.
 
TPC Myrtle Beach is a par-72, 6,950-yard Tom Fazio designed golf course. The third and final round will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. The Bucs will be paired with players from East Carolina, Pepperdine, and Auburn.
