Saturday, March 12, 2011

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 11, 2011) - For the third consecutive match the No. 75 ETSU men's tennis team shutout an opponent as the Bucs swept past Belmont 7-0 Friday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference action.

With the win ETSU improves to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in A-Sun play, while the Bruins fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.

"We played a solid match today and we are looking forward to tomorrow's match against Lipscomb," said ETSU Assistant Coach Ricky Rojas.

After ETSU took the early point by winning all three doubles matches, the Bucs quickly stole all the momentum after getting a couple of quick victories. Only one singles match went to three sets.

With the 1-0 advantage in hand junior Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) and freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) picked up to quick victories. Bonnevalle defeated Jonathan Murrell, 6-1, 6-1, while Ordeig rolled past Christopher Bates, 6-0, 6-0. Bonnevalle and Ordeig remain perfect in dual singles play as Bonnevalle is now 5-0, while Ordeig is 4-0.

Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) kept the ETSU wins coming as each earned straight set victories. Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) also earned a straight set victory as he knocked off Rafael Matos, 6-3, 6-3.

The closest match of the day came at the No. 1 position as ETSU's Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) had a tough battle with Rodrigo Amaral. Each player split the first two sets to force a super tiebreaker. Teraz came out strong in the tiebreaker and closed out the match with a 6-7, 7-6, 10-2 win.

The Bucs will look for a weekend sweep as they host Lipscomb tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. The match will be played on campus at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
