SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 4, 2011) - After falling behind 4-0, the ETSU baseball team rallied to score six unanswered runs to defeat USC Upstate 6-4 in ten innings Friday afternoon at Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C.

Scott McNally (Roswell, Ga.) picked up his second win of the week and fourth of the season after throwing 3.0 scoreless innings of relief for the Buccaneers (6-2, 1-0 A-Sun), while Andrew Wyant was tabbed with the loss for the Upstate (4-7, 0-1 A-Sun) after surrendering three runs on five hits in 2.0 innings.

The Spartans got things going in the bottom of the first as Trey Richardson drove a two-run home run over the fence in left to take a 2-0 lead.

ETSU threatened in the top of the third as the Bucs loaded the bases with two outs, but USC Upstate's Gaither Bumgarnder robbed junior Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) of a hit as he made a great play at third to end the inning.

In the bottom half, Upstate added two more runs on two hits and a couple Buccaneer errors to take a 4-0 advantage.

The Bucs cut the Spartan's lead to 4-1 in the top of the sixth as Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) came in to score on a bases loaded single to third by centerfielder Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.).

The Buccaneers loaded the bases again in the top of the seventh, but USC Upstate turned a double play on a ball hit to second by shortstop Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) to end the threat.

After two quick outs to start the top of the eighth, ETSU loaded the bases for the third straight inning. With the bases loaded, senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) drew his fourth walk of the day to bring in Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) from third. In the next at bat, Pratt drew an RBI walk to make the score 4-3.

Freeman then tied the game at 4-all in the top of the ninth as he drove in Doane on a ball hit to first.

The Bucs completed the comeback in the top of the tenth as Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Hoilman both singled to lead off the inning. After a balk moved Reeder and Hoilman up a base, Pratt drove a single to left scoring Reeder from third to give ETSU a 5-4 lead. Catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) closed out the scoring for the Bucs as he brought in Hoilman from third on a sacrifice fly to left.

Reeder earned his third save of the year as he threw a perfect tenth inning to close out the game.

ETSU returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against USC Upstate in game two of the series. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
