ASHEVILLE, N.C. (March 2, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team scored 11 unanswered runs to defeat UNC Asheville 13-5 Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field in Asheville, N.C.

Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) had a quality start for the Bucs (5-2) throwing 5.0 scoreless innings in a no decision as the right-hander struck out seven while limiting the Bulldogs (4-4) to one hit.

Scott McNally (Roswell, Ga.) improved to 3-0 on the year after throwing a scoreless seventh, while Asheville's Grier Harrington was tabbed with the loss after surrendering four runs (two earned) on two hits in 0.2 innings.

Catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) put the Buccaneers in front 2-0 in the top of the fourth as he sent a two-run home run over the fence in right.

In the top of the sixth, Asheville's Danny Baatz robbed senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) of a home run as Baatz climbed up the fence in left center and made the catch over the fence.

The Bulldogs rallied for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth capped off by a sacrifice fly to left by Catlin Carter to give Asheville a 5-2 advantage.

ETSU answered in the top of the seventh as the Bucs put up a three spot to tie the game at 5-all. After a single by shortstop Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and a double by Alex Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.), Doane came in to score on a balk by Tommy Houmard. In the next at bat, right fielder Michael Gonzalez (Jupiter, Fla.) doubled down the right field line scoring Reynolds from third. Gonzalez then came around to score on a throwing error by Ian Graham to tie the game.

Junior Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) put the Bucs back in front 7-5 in the eighth as he crushed a two-run home run to left center. ETSU went on to explode for six more runs in the inning highlighted by a three-run home run by third baseman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) to give the Buccaneers a 13-5 edge.

The Buccaneer bullpen retired six of the last seven batters to close out the contest.

Offensively, ETSU had six players post multi-hit performances. Trent and Pratt led the way as the senior catcher went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI, while Pratt was 2-for-5 with a double, home run and team-best three RBI.

The Bucs return to action Friday at 4 p.m. as they open the conference season at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
