ETSU, Lipscomb kick off General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament

MACON, Ga. (March 1, 2011) - The road to March Madness begins Wednesday afternoon when the top-seeded ETSU women's basketball team takes on eighth-seeded Lipscomb in the quarterfinals of the General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. Tip is slated for noon inside Mercer's University Center.

The Lady Bucs - who have won 15 of their last 20 games and sit 18-11 on the season - will look to make history this weekend in Macon. ETSU looks to join Florida International as the only two programs to win four consecutive A-Sun Tournament titles. The Panthers won four straight league tournament crowns from 1992-95.

Overall, ETSU has reached four straight conference championship games, and the Lady Bucs are 10-2 all-time in A-Sun Tournament contests. The Blue and Gold went 12-2 against the tournament field in 2010-11 and are an impressive 80-9 lifetime against those seven teams.

However, the Blue and Gold are entering the tournament on a loss after suffering a 60-57 setback at Campbell on Thursday night in Buies Creek, N.C. Despite having the Camels miss 22 of their first 24 shots, Campbell produced enough offense to rally past the Lady Bucs for the three-point win. ETSU was held scoreless during the last three-plus minutes of the game, while Campbell closed out the stretch on a 9-0 run.

Senior Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) leads the team in scoring (15.3) and assists (4.8), while junior guard Natalie Pickwell (Kingsport, Tenn.) has knocked down 25 threes over her last nine games (2.8 per contest) and is posting 14.4 points during this stretch.

Meanwhile, Lipscomb (9-20) is coming off a 70-67 victory over Mercer on Saturday afternoon in Macon. Despite the win, the Lady Bisons have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

The Lady Bisons are led by the strong duo of Jenna Bartsokas and Anna Bowers. Bartsokas ranks fifth in conference in scoring as she is averaging 14.8 points per game, while ironically Bowers is 13th at 13.0ppg.

The Lady Bucs swept Lipscomb in the regular season with the most recent win being a 66-52 victory back on Feb. 19 in Nashville. ETSU also defeated the Lady Bisons by 31, 95-64, back in January in Johnson City. Overall, the Blue and Gold have won 13 of the 14 games in the series - including ten straight. ETSU and Lipscomb have met twice in the conference tournament, with the Lady Bucs taking both meetings.

All eight quarterfinal contests will air on ASun.TV, free of charge, while the semifinals and final will be aired live on CSS. Fans outside CSS markets can purchase the all semifinal games and final game on ASun.TV for $9.99.
