JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 20, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team exploded for five runs in the third inning as the Buccaneers went on to take the series with an 11-5 win over Marist Sunday at Cardinal Park.

Senior Ben Booker (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up his first win of the season for the Bucs (2-1) going 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Red Foxes (1-2) got on the board early as Ricky Pacione drove a ball over the fence in left center to give Marist a 2-0 advantage.

ETSU evened things in the bottom of the second as centerfielder Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) hammered a 2-1 pitch over the right field fence for a two-run home run.

In the next inning, the Buccaneer offense exploded for five runs on three hits including a three-run double by senior first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) to take a 7-2 lead.

Marist would cut the lead to 7-4 in the fourth after a bases loaded walk to Dan Zlotnick and a RBI single by Pat Welsh, but that would be as close as the Red Foxes would come on the day as the ETSU relievers were able to stifle the Marist offense for the rest of the game.

Junior Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) continued his good weekend at the plate in the bottom of the fourth as he singled in third baseman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.). The Bucs added two more runs in the fifth on a solo home run to left center by junior John Long (Anderson, S.C) and a RBI single by Reeder to make the score 10-4 ETSU.

Right fielder Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) then closed out the scoring for the Bucs in the sixth as he singled in Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) from third.

The Red Foxes threatened in the eighth as they loaded the bases with one out. Pacione picked up his third RBI of the day as he singled in a run, but Reeder came in to close out the game for ETSU as he retired the next five batters to end the contest.

Offensively, Hoilman and Long led the way for the Bucs. Hoilman was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Long was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and a run driven in.

ETSU is back in action next Friday at 3:05 p.m. as the Bucs host Rider in a four-game series. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
