JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2011) - After exploding for nine runs in the season opener, the ETSU baseball team could not find an answer against Marist pitching in game two as the Bucs fell 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park.

Senior Bo Burton (Kingsport, Tenn.) was tabbed with the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings. Burton also had four strikeouts and three walks in the contest.

The Bucs (1-1) struck first in the bottom of the first as Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) tripled to right scoring Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) from first to give ETSU a 1-0 lead.

After a couple scoreless innings, the Red Foxes (1-1) came to life offensively taking their first lead of the series, 2-1. Jon Schwind started the scoring in the fourth as he brought home Mike Orefice on a ball hit to second. Later in the inning Tim Nugent added his second home run of the series as he sent a ball over the right field fence.

ETSU threatened in bottom of the fifth, as the Buccaneers loaded the bases with two outs, but senior Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) was punched out for the third time on the day to end the threat.

Marist added three more runs in the top of the sixth on bases loaded walks to Nugent and Nick McQuail and a ball hit to short by Dan Zlotnick to take a 5-1 advantage.

The Red Foxes pitchers went on to retire 12 of the next 14 batters to close out the game.

Chad Gallagher picked up the win for Marist giving up one run on five hits in 5.2 innings with ten strikeouts.

Green led the ETSU offense as he was 2-for-5 for the day, scored a run and swiped two bases.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. as they face Marist in the rubber match of the series. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
