Burton and Brewer finish first at 2011 Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. (Jan. 22, 2010) - The ETSU track and field team had a good showing at the 2011 Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C. Saturday, as the Bucs saw 13 athletes post top five finishes.
"We had a very good meet at App State, and it was very encouraging to see how the team responded after last week's meet," said assistant coach Eli Sunquist. "Jarrod, Tim, and Ifrish did a great job on the men's side, and Jasmine and Lexie helped to lead the women. We did rest a few of our sprinters and jumpers this weekend, so we are really looking forward to sending a full squad to Liberty next weekend to continue the success that we had today."
Jarrod Burton (Bastian, Va.) finished first in the men's shot put with a throw of 54-10, while junior Cornell Sneed (Miami, Fla.) came in fifth with a personal best mark of 48-0. Burton also had a good day in the weight throw placing second with a mark of 58-10.
In the men's 3000m, freshman Christian Brewer (Knoxville, Tenn.) outlasted Georgia State's Chris Harper to finish first with a time of 9:05.29.
The men's team also had strong performances from Ifrish Alberg and Tim O'Dell (Palm Coast, Fla.) in the sprints. Alberg placed second in 55m with a personal best time of 6.33 and them came back to finish fifth in the 200m after posting another lifetime best of 22.12. O'Dell was the top collegiate finisher in the 400m as he placed second edging out Zacharias Giles of Claflin with a personal record time of 49.47.
In the men's 800m, Desmond Pierce (Morristown, Tenn.) came in fourth with a personal best time of 1:56.26, while freshman Sean Duffy (Jonesboro, Tenn.) came in fifth in the men's 5000m after posting a time of 16:37.87. Landon Milhorn (The Woodlands, Texas) also had a top 5 finish as he finished fourth in the men's mile with a time of 4:29.56
On the women's side, Jasmine Ingram (Fredrick, Md.) lead the way as she placed second in 400m after running a time of 55.96.
Lexie Burley finished fourth in the women's triple after her jump of 37-7 ¼, and Chelsea Clark (Fairmont, W.V.) had a fifth place finish in the women's mile with a time of 5:23.14.
