Skole announces three to 2011-12 signing class

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2010) - ETSU head baseball coach Tony Skole announced the signing of three players to the 2011-12 Buccaneer class on Tuesday.
"We feel great about the young men we signed in this early signing period," Skole said. "I can't say enough about the time and effort recruiting coordinator Clay Greene and assistant coach Reid Casey put into developing those relationships that are so important during this process. These young men are all quality individuals from great families and will represent our baseball program and ETSU very well both on the field and in the classroom. They will help us as soon as they step foot on campus. We are very blessed to have signed these three young men. We look forward to them joining the Buccaneer family in the fall of 2011."
The Bucs signed shortstop Chris Riopedre (Miami, Fla.), right-handed pitcher Kuehl McEachern (Eustis, Fla.) and utility infielder Jordan Sanford (Powell, Tenn.).
Riopedre, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound, shortstop comes from Monsignor Pace High School where he plays for Tom Duffin. Riopedre has excelled for the Spartans averaging .380 at the plate in three seasons with 10 home runs. A Second Team All-County selection, Riopedre helped guide Archbishop McCarthy High School to it's first-ever Florida State Tournament appearance. Riopedre was invited to take part in both the MLB summer workouts and the Chicago White Sox Showcase, and also played for the prestigious Team Marruci this past summer.
Skole on Riopedre:
"Chris is one of the top defensive infielders in the state of Florida. He is very athletic and has phenomenal instincts. He is big time defender that will also be a great offensive player here at ETSU.   Our fans will love watching this young man play the game of baseball, because he plays it the right way. Chris plays with tons of passion and should fit very well into our style of play."

McEachern, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound, right-handed pitcher comes from Eustis High School where he plays for Lemont Fulmer. In 2010, McEachern was named the Orlando Sentinel Player of the Week. McEachern is a member of the Chet Lemon's Juice travel team and has helped the team win the George Steinbrenner Inaugural Classic and Perfect Game World Wood Bat Tournament.
Skole on McEachern:
"Kuehl was on our radar very early in the recruiting process. Every time we saw him he was impressive. He already has a great frame but his potential is off the charts. He is a big, strong right-hander with the ability to throw 90-plus and with his above-average secondary pitches, he will be another front-line arm for us in the near future. Kuehl has great make-up and we expect him to come in and compete for a spot in the rotation right off the bat"
Sanford, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, utility infielder comes from Powell High School where he plays for Jeff Inman. Sanford was named All-Region in 2010 and All-District in 2009 and 2010. The Powell, Tenn. native also received Super Sophomore and Freshmen Team honors from the Knoxville New Sentinel. As a junior, Sanford hit .407 with five home runs, 39 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Sanford also was named to the Perfect Game Pre-season All-American Honorable Mention Team in 2010.
Skole on Sanford:
"Jordan is one of the top players in the state of Tennessee and we feel very fortunate he chose ETSU to continue his education and baseball career. His is a physical, athletic, switch-hitting infielder who has a tremendous upside. Jordan fits our mold here at ETSU perfectly. He has a lot of strengths that will translate well to the college game. Jordan has a great work ethic to go with solid physical tools. He runs well, has a good accurate arm, and can really drive the ball. Jordan has the opportunity to crack our line-up very quickly."
