JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2010) - Head ETSU women's basketball coach Karen Kemp and her staff announced Thursday that Cara Bowling (Elizabethon, Tenn.) and Brianna Bogard (Georgetown, Texas) have signed their national letter of intent to play for the Lady Bucs starting in the fall of 2011.

"Overall we are thrilled with this early signing class, because Cara and Bri address our key needs for next season," Kemp said. "I am very excited that we were able to add a local product in Cara, because she can contribute and help push our players to get better. Losing T.D. (Tara Davis) to graduation in May is a key loss, so we needed to go out and find a point guard that can step in and play right away. We think we found that player in Bri."

Bowling, a 5-foot-8 guard from Elizabethon High School, was named 2009-10 Player of the Year and 2007 Freshman of the Year. In addition, Bowling is a three-time All-Conference member, while being tabbed All-District (2007-08) and District MVP in 2009. The Elizabethton, Tenn. product reached the 1,000-point club as a junior (1,250 total points), and has compiled 367 rebounds, 246 assists, and 251 steals with the Cyclones. Bowling is a 42 percent 3-point and 82 percent free throw shooter in her three-year high school career thus far.

"Keeping local players in the area is important to me and I am excited to have Cara join our program in 2011-12," added Kemp. "Cara is a hardworking player who can do a little bit of everything. She is a very tough competitor that wants to win and compete each time she steps on the floor. Cara can shoot the short to mid-range jumper and she is always working to improve her game. Having her on the wing provides us with another threat and gives us depth at that position."

Meanwhile, Bogard will also join the Lady Bucs in 2011-12; however, she will have a little longer trip to Johnson City as she hails from Georgetown, Texas. Bogard is a multi-sport athlete at Georgetown High School, where she lettered in basketball and softball. The 5-foot-7 point guard brings a winning pedigree to ETSU as she helped guide the Lady Eagles to 91 wins and three straight district championships. Bogard, the 2009-10 Central Texas Player of the Year, is averaging 13.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.9 steals per game in high school. The Georgetown, Texas native is also a First Team All-State selection and McDonalds All-American Nominee.

"One of many things that we liked about Bri was her high basketball IQ," said Kemp. "Bri is a gritty and scrappy point guard who is deceivingly quick. She can shoot the three and is a strong leader - who knows how to control the game. She can affect the game through many ways with her leadership and she knows how to win."

The 2010-11 Lady Buccaneer women's basketball team is set to host Appalachian State Friday night to kick off homecoming weekend. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
