Duo marks first additions to Buccaneers' 2011-12 signing class

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2010) - ETSU men's basketball head coach Murry Bartow announced Thursday the program has received national letters of intent from two players for the 2011-12 recruiting class.

Rashawn Rembert, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard from Sickles High School in Tampa, Fla., along with Lester Wilson, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound swingman from Carter High School in Knoxville, Tenn., had both verbally committed to the Buccaneers months ago, but the two made it official on Thursday.

"We're really pleased to welcome both Rashawn and Lester into our program," Bartow said. "We are lucky to have an experienced, veteran team this year, but we will have a lot of holes to fill next year. Both these guys can help us."

Rembert was a first team all-conference, all-county and all-state selection as a junior, averaging 22 points and seven rebounds a game a year ago. He shot over 42 percent from 3-point range, and is expected to give the Bucs' another potential scorer to add to the roster.

"We're really excited having Rashawn coming into the program," Bartow said. "He gives us another big guard, and with the loss of so many scorers next year, he comes in as someone who can make shots. He's a great kid and a good athlete from a part of the country that has been really good for us."

Rembert said ETSU just "felt" right.

"I wanted to come into a winning program with an at-home feel," Rembert said. "That was what made the difference for me at ETSU. Everywhere else I felt a lot of pressure to commit. But at ETSU everyone was really mellow and mature. They let me see the program and make my own decision. Getting away from home was also important to me, and having a chance to play with Tampa guys like (Sheldon) Cooley, (Adam) Sollazzo and (Lukas) Poderis is going to be exciting."

Meanwhile, Wilson is a supremely talented athlete with the ability to play above the rim. He averaged 27.4 points and 13 rebounds as a junior and has been named all-district and all-region for three years in a row.

"First of all he's a great kid with a wonderful personality," Bartow said. "He reminds us a lot of Isiah Brown in that way. Basketball wise he is undersized for the forward, but we think he's a lot like Kevin Tiggs in the sense that he doesn't really fit a position. He is a high-major athlete and is unbelievably efficient from 10-feet and in."

Wilson said it was the ETSU coaching staff's desire to bring him to Johnson City that was the difference for him when making a decision.

"I felt wanted," he said. "Every other team - even some in the SEC - would talk with me and show interest, but it felt like every time I was playing Coach Bartow was there and making a real effort to get me to come to ETSU. Once I made my visit I just fell in love with the place and knew it was where I wanted to be."
