SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 27, 2010) - The ETSU men's soccer team tied a school record netting four goals as the Bucs rolled to a 4-1 win over USC Upstate on a rainy Wednesday night at County University Soccer Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.

"We were able to gut out a difficult road match to close out the A-Sun Regular season with the result we needed to give us a chance to host the A-Sun Tournament. ," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "Stetson is a very talented team, but we are hoping that either UNF or Jacksonville University will take points off them this weekend."

The Bucs (12-4-0, 7-2-0 A-Sun) have now won five straight games for the second time this season. With the win, the Buccaneers can clinch home field in the Atlantic Sun Tournament with a Stetson draw or loss to either North Florida or Jacksonville.

ETSU outshot the Spartans 21-5 in the match putting 12 shots on frame. The Buccaneers also had a 7-3 edge in corners.

Junior Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.) put the Buccaneers in front 1-0 in the 9th minute as he one-timed a pass from Colin Pugh (Dublin, Ireland) into the back of the net.

ETSU increased its lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute as sophomore David Haba (Germantown, Tenn.) intercepted a Spartan pass and slotted a shot to the far post past USC Upstate's Jason McCabe.

In the second half, the Spartans cut the lead to 2-1 as Jan Wienholt headed a free kick from Timo Foerster into the goal in the 66th minute.

The Buccaneers answered quickly though as Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria) settled a pass from Mohammad Bowers (Knoxville, Tenn.) and blasted a shot past McCabe into the left corner of the net to make the score 3-1 ETSU in the 69th minute.

A minute later, Schoenfeld notched his second goal of the contest as he deflected a shot from Bowers into the left corner of the net to make the final 4-1.

"The team is now very excited to host UNC-Chapel Hill in Johnson City, Tenn.," Calabrese added. "It should be a great game for ETSU fans and the soccer community."

The Bucs return to action on Saturday at 6 p.m. as they host 4th ranked North Carolina at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Fans who wear a costume or black attire to the contest will receive admission for only a Buc ($1).
