Men's golf tied for tenth after day one at U.S. Collegiate Championship

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Oct. 24, 2010) - ETSU junior Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.) finished his opening round with a team-best 1-over 73 to lead the Bucs during the opening day of the U.S. Collegiate Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Wilson, who has been playing solid as of late, finished his round with three birdies and four bogeys. He is currently tied for 22nd overall in the 78-player field that includes six of the top-25 players in college golf.
The Bucs are tied for 10th position on the team leaderboard in the 15-team field after finishing with a 300 (+12) team score on the opening day at the 7,017-yard, par-72 The Golf Club of Georgia layout. No. 17 ranked and host Georgia Tech has the team lead after day one following a 271 (-17). No. 16 Texas A&M is in second at 4-under and No. 3 UCLA is currently third at 2-under. USC (E) and No. 19 Virginia (+1) round out the top five. The event, which is considered one of the tops in college golf, features 11 teams ranked in the top-40 of the Golf Stat head-to-head rankings.
James White of Georgia Tech has the individual lead as he fired an impressive first-round 10-under 62. White had ten birdies and no bogeys during for his round. A group of five players are tied for second at 3-under, while another group of seven players are at 2-under.
ETSU senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) and sophomore Patrick Spraggs (Rochford, England) both shot rounds of 75 (+3) on Sunday and are tied for 34th.
Freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) opened the tournament with a 77 (+5) and is tied for 55th, while junior Devin Komline (Dorset, Vt.) shot a first round 80 to round out the ETSU scoring.
The Bucs tee off round number two tomorrow beginning at 12:30 p.m. They will be paired with players from UCLA and Kent State.
