JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 22, 2010) - Following an impressive 3-0 sweep of Southern Conference opponent Wofford on Wednesday night, the ETSU volleyball team returns home looking for their 20th victory of the season as they welcome in Presbyterian, Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
The Bucs (19-6, 4-1 A-Sun) were led by freshman outside hitter Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) as she recorded a game-high 15 kills on Wednesday night. Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) also finished in double figures as she had 11 kills in 21 attempts for a .381 attack percentage. Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) racked up 37 assists while Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Fla.) had a game-high 22 digs to lead the ETSU defense. Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) finished with nine kills, five digs, and three assists.
ETSU is looking for its first 20-plus win season since 2006 when the Bucs finished with a 25-7 overall record. The team is also having one of the most drastic turnarounds in the nation this season as they have already recorded eight more victories than last year.
The NCAA released its new RPI rankings on Monday afternoon and ETSU is one of just two Atlantic Sun teams in the top-100, as the Bucs currently sit at No. 94.
Presbyterian (10-12, 3-5 Big South) enters the weekend following a home split in conference play. The Blue Hose were defeated by Charleston Southern 3-1 on Friday night before earning a tough five set win over Winthrop on Saturday. PC will take on Liberty in conference play Friday night before traveling to Johnson City.
Offensively, Presbyterian is led by a trio of players that have recorded over 200 kills this season, including Presley Mabry (3.64 kps), Lisa Shelley (3.08 kps), and Amanda Kettles (3.01 kps). Kilee Ruppe leads the Terriers with 10.33 assists per set, while Ashley Dunlap leads the team defensively with 3.06 digs per set.
Saturday's match marks the first time the two schools have met in volleyball. The Bucs have, however, met four of Presbyterian's Big South foes this season. They are a perfect 4-0 against the Big South this year as they have defeated Coastal Carolina, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, and UNC Asheville.
The Bucs will close out non-conference play on Wednesday as they will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to take on Western Carolina. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
