JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2010) -

"I thought that was a great win because UNC Greensboro is a very athletic and talented team," said ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine. "When our team blocks well it becomes a huge momentum boost for us."

Devine also added nine digs, two aces and four block assists. Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) came in with 12 kills (.391) and five block assists. Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) and Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) combined for 21 kills during the match. Stancliff added five block assists. Ryan finished with a double-double as she also recorded 13 digs to go with her 10 kills. Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) quarterbacked the offense with 49 assists, eight kills, and four digs. UNC Greensboro got off to a quick start by taking the opening set 25-21. The Bucs came back and earned a tough 26-24 victory in the second set.

In the third set, ETSU jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back as they controlled the set throughout for a 25-17 victory. The fourth set was much of the same but both teams traded blows early. ETSU then got out to a lead that they would retain throughout to close out the match.

The Bucs outhit the Spartans .243-.163 while also finishing with a significant 12.0-6.0 advantage in the blocks department.

In the second match of the day, ETSU got out to a commanding advantage over UNC Asheville in the opening set. Again, the Bucs never looked back as they rolled 25-14 in the set.

The second set was a much different story as UNC Asheville played a solid set to defeat the Bucs 25-22.

With both teams tied at a set apiece, it looked as if UNC Asheville was going to win their second straight set. However, with UNCA in front 20-17, the Bucs got a big kill from Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) to cut the lead. Then, with the Bulldogs in front 22-20, ETSU got two kills from Devine to take the lead at 23-22. Devine would also close out the set for the Bucs as she recorded two kills in a row to take the set victory.

The Bucs closed out the match in the fourth set after winning a back-and-forth frame. ETSU finished with a .222-.000 advantage during the set. Devine also provided five kills in the set.

ETSU finished the match with a season-high 19 team blocks. They finished with a 19-7 advantage in blocks on the night.

"We keep talking about the steep hill we are climbing and they came back in this match as they really stayed composed," added Devine. "It was a demonstration of being mentally tough and it is something that we have battled back and forth with but I saw a good step in the right direction tonight"

Devine finished on the all-tournament team for the Bucs as they completed the tournament with a 2-1 mark.

ETSU is now 6-4 on the season after the two victories, while UNC Asheville falls to 4-6. UNC Greensboro is now 8-3 on the season after dropping the match to the Bucs then later against Austin Peay. Austin Peay finished the event with a perfect 3-0 record and are now an impressive 9-1 on the season.

"I thought it was a great weekend with everyone involved with putting this event together, it was the behind the scenes efforts that made everything flow so well."

The Bucs return to action next weekend as they will travel to Statesboro, Ga. for the Springhill Suites Invitational at Georgia Southern. ETSU will take on Charleston Southern, South Alabama, Georgia Southern and Winthrop.
