Men's golf finishes 11th at Carpet Capital Collegiate
Monday, September 13, 2010 ROCKY FACE, Ga. (Sept. 12, 2010) - ETSU senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) fired a final round 1-under par 71 to lead the No. 32 ranked Bucs at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday afternoon. The Bucs finished in 11th place (295-302-302—899) for the tournament after recording their second straight total of 302 on The Farm Golf Club layout (par-72, 7,012 yards).
O'Kane recorded three birdies and two bogeys during his final round to climb the leaderboard and finish tied for 34th (76-76-71—223). He was also ETSU's top finisher on the weekend. No. 15 Alabama (280-287-289—856) won the team title by four strokes after posting a solid 1-over par total in Sunday's final round to finish at 8-under par for the tournament. No. 39 Wake Forest finished in second at 4-under while No. 10 Georgia Tech and No. 17 Clemson tied for third at 2-under. Lee Bedford of Wake Forest claimed individual medalist honors after putting together two very impressive rounds on the weekend. After opening the tournament with an even-par 72, Bedford fired a 6-under 66 on Saturday and a 4-under 68 on Sunday, to finish at 10-under overall. His Wake Forest teammate Evan Beck finished in second at 8-under while Blayne Barber of Auburn finished third at 6-under. ETSU freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) capped off a solid first career collegiate tournament with a final round 76 to finish just behind O'Kane in 39th position (73-75-76—224). Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and Devin Komline (Dorset, Vermont) finished tied for 46th. Enoch (73-73-82—228) shot 82 during the final round while Komline (73-78-77—228) fired a 77. Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.) posted a final round 78 to finish in 58th position (78-81-78—237). The Bucs will return to action on October 10 as they will travel to Durham, N.C. for the Rod Myers Invitational, hosted by Duke University. |
