ETSU remains perfect in Radford Tournament after 3-2 victory over Davidson

RADFORD, Va. (September 4, 2010) - The ETSU volleyball team won its second straight five set match, this time against Davidson 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 15-10) at the Radford Tournament on Saturday morning.
 
ETSU is now 2-0 for the tournament and improve to 3-3 on the young season, while Davidson falls to 3-2 on the year. The Bucs finished the match with a .218 hitting percentage.
 
Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) and Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the ETSU offense with 11 kills apiece. Long also led the way with seven blocks, while Devine added nine digs. Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) led the way defensively for the Bucs with 17 digs. Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) finished with 43 assists, four kills, five aces, four blocks and two digs. Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) also came in with ten kills.
 
The Bucs won the last three points in the fifth set to take the victory. Stancliff and Devine had the last three kills to cap the victory.
 
In the first set, the Bucs got out to a solid start by taking an early advantage. With the score tied at 17, ETSU scored four straight points to take back the lead. The run was led by freshman Devineas she recorded two straight service aces. The Bucs ended the set by winning the last four points capped by a McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) kill.
 
The Bucs jumped out to a 2-0 set lead after winning a back and forth second set. With the game knotted at 23-23, ETSU closed out the set thanks to a Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) kill and an Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.).
 
Davidson would not go away as they battled back to win the next two sets. The Wildcats won a wild fourth set as they took it 26-24. Davidson got two straight kills to close out the set after the score was knotted at 24 apiece.
 
ETSU will close out the Radford Tournament against Norfolk State this evening at 5 p.m.
