JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 31, 2010)
- The ETSU men's soccer team is set to open the season Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the Bucs head to Greenville, S.C. to face Furman at the Eugene E. Stone III Soccer Stadium.

The Bucs (0-0-0) had a win and a draw in the preseason defeating Tusculum 3-2, while tying Wofford 1-1. ETSU is led by Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference selections Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.).

This is the first meeting between the two teams, as the Buccaneers are 2-3-1 all-time against teams from the Southern Conference.

Furman (0-0-0) comes into the contest ranked 45th in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Paladins return seven starters from a team that finished with a record of 8-8-2 in 2009.

First week of preseason was demanding in terms of the quantity of work we all had to put in at practice. Two-a-days every day in the heat wears down your body quick. It's all worth it when it comes down to the games though. Being able to outwork one's opponent is truly an accomplishment for the individual player and coaching staff.

We tied Wofford 1-1 on Saturday, Aug. 21, so it wasn't a bad start to our season. Although we tied, we were relatively happy with the result and we all know we should've put the game away as we had more than enough chances to do so. A bit unlucky really.

Until next time,

Preseason started well. We had two-a-days for two weeks and things are starting to settle down for season play. Our first preseason game against Wofford went very well, considering none of us had played together in a full fixture. Wofford was a descent side, though we came out of the game with a draw. We had plenty of chances to put the game out of reach. In the end it was a descent outcome for a first game. Our second performance against Tusculum wasn't to the best of our ability. We ended with a win, but in the end our performance needed to be better. And we knew in the week to come, we have to make things right.

The team chemistry this year is going to be spot on as we all get along very well. From day one we were a team and we all clicked within each and every personality. Soon it will relate into our play and will help us greatly in succeeding, which is our main focus. We are all very excited for the year to come and to get this soccer program at the level where it should and needs to be.

Until next time,
Blaike Woodruff #4
