JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 4, 2010) - Head ETSU women's basketball coach Karen Kemp and her staff announced Tuesday that Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Lady Bucs starting in the 2010-11 season.

"I am very excited that Destiny chose ETSU and we are happy to have her be apart of the Lady Buccaneer family," added Kemp. "My staff did a tremendous job recruiting her and Destiny is a very athletic player. I really think she has the potential to step in and perform like a former Lady Buccaneer we recently recruited out of Georgia."

Mitchell, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward from Randolph-Clay High School, saw her stock rise even higher after scoring a career-high 53-points against rival Bainbridge earlier this season. Following that performance, Rutgers, Georgia and St. John's entered the recruiting picture, but when it was all said and done, Mitchell turned down the BCS schools to come play for coach Kemp and the three-time Atlantic Sun Champion Lady Bucs.

Not only can Mitchell score after averaging 29.7 points as a senior, but the Bluffton, Ga. native is a true all-around player. Mitchell also posted 14 rebounds, six steals and four blocks for the Lady Red Devils en route to being named co-Player of the Year in the state of Georgia. Along with putting up monstrous numbers, Mitchell also brings a winning attitude to Johnson City, as she helped guide Randolph-Clay to three consecutive GHSA Class A Final Fours.

When it came down to making a decision Mitchell chose ETSU over St. John's because of its recent winning tradition, but also due to the strong physical therapy program.

"They've (ETSU) got a good basketball program and a good physical therapy program," said Mitchell. "That's really how I made my decision."

Mitchell is now one of four new faces coming to Johnson City this fall, as she joins post players Ashley Miles (Bowie, Md.) and Akaycha Robinson (Fort Meade, Fla.) - along with point guard Shawn Randall (Orlando, Fla.).
