ETSU track and field travels to Florida and Virginia this weekend

Thursday, April 01, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. AND LYNCHBURG, Va. (April 1, 2010) - The ETSU track and field team will split up this weekend as some of the Buccaneer athletes make the trip to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, while the rest of the team travels to Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.

The Bucs are coming off a strong weekend at Western Carolina, where juniors Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) and Jasmine Ingram (Frederick, Md.) both set new facility records in their respective events. James' time of 14-seconds in the 110m hurdles not only broke Appalachian State's Charles Derrickson's mark of 14.25 (set in 2007), but it also put him 12th in the country on the performance lists. Meanwhile, Ingram broke a former Lady Buccaneer runner's mark in the 400m as her time of 54.50 broke Nicola Cornish's track record - which was set at the 2005 SoCon Championships.

Both James and Ingram were rewarded with Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday, and now the standout athletes will look to improve on their times this weekend at the Florida Relays.

On Friday, James will begin the day with a 12:45 p.m. race in the 110mH, while Ingram will race in the 400m at 1:05 p.m. In addition, senior sprinter Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) makes a visit back to his home state to run in the 100m at 2:40 p.m. on Friday.

Meanwhile, at Liberty, senior Jordan Briggs (Erwin, Tenn.) and freshman Matt Hill (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) will compete in the decathlon, which begins Friday at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, ETSU will spend most of its time competing in the field events, while a select few Buccaneer athletes race in the 100, 400, 800 and the 110mH.
