Bucs wrap up competition at Virginia Tech Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2010) - The ETSU track and field team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational with a handful of strong performances on  Saturday afternoon inside the Rector Field House.

 

Facing several nationally ranked teams and fierce competition, the Buccaneers made some noise at the two-day meet.

 

Coming off a solid showing in the 60m dash last night, senior Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) wrapped the afternoon with a second-place effort in the 200 on Saturday. Monal finished behind North Carolina State's Ben Major with a time of 21.64.

 

Also on the men's side, freshman Michael Lockhart (Dandridge, Tenn.) came away with a lifetime best in the long jump. Lockhart advanced to the finals in the event and finished eighth overall with a leap of 22-09 (6.93m).

 

On the women's side, junior Jasmine Ingram (Frederick, Md.) was again making headlines for the Lady Bucs. Coming off her second straight Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honor on Thursday, the Frederick, Md. native posted a top-five finish in the 400m. Ingram placed fifth after clocking in at 55.99.

 

Rounding things out for the Lady Bucs was junior newcomer Caitlyn Epps' (Cookeville, Tenn.) performance in the 3000m. Epps turned in the fastest time in the A-Sun this season with a mark of 10:50.33 on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Buccaneers return to action next weekend when ETSU hosts the Niswonger Invitational inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. The two-day meet kicks off on Friday, Jan. 22.
