Tuesday, March 23, 2010
PINEHURST, N.C. (March 23, 2010) - The ETSU women's golf team carded a final round score of 304 to finish fourth among 18 teams in the Pinehurst Challenge Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 6.
The Buccaneers, who are currently ranked 49th nationally, finished ahead of teams such as N.C. State, East Carolina, Minnesota, Princeton, College of Charleston and James Madison, but ended the event off the pace 28th-ranked Florida State, which won the team championship.
Meanwhile, Lacey Agnew made it a sweep for the Seminoles, holding off Maryland's Christine Shimel by two strokes to take the individual title. ETSU senior Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) played well once again, posting the team's top individual performance by finishing tied for fourth. O'Sullivan ended the third round at 2-over-par 218 for the tournament (72-72-74=218).
"The ladies continue building their confidence this spring," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. "If we can continue posting four solid scores each round, we should have a great chance of winning our upcoming events.
"I am extremely proud of Sinead's consistency in leading the team. We want to compete hard at Ole Miss next week, and then reclaim our role as conference champions."
Along with O'Sullivan's efforts, the Bucs also got a tie for 18th from sophomore Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain), while fellow sophomore Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) and senior Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) tied for 34th.
The Bucs will return to action April 2nd at the Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the spring season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
