Monday, February 22, 2010
RIO GRANDE, P.R. (Feb. 22, 2010) - Despite posting a team score of 1-under-par 287, the ETSU men's golf team fell slightly off the pace during second round play Monday in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Golf Club's River Course.
The No. 33-ranked Buccaneers, who began the day tied for fourth, are still just seven strokes back of fourth place Georgia, but No. 9 Texas posted the low round of the day with an impressive 19-under 269 to take an eight stroke lead over No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State heading into Tuesday's final round. Texas is currently 30-under for the event, while the Bucs are currently at 5-under for the tournament.
Individually, Texas' Cody Gribble fired an 8-under-par 65 on Monday and leads the event by one stroke over Georgia's Harris English and Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway.
ETSU, which still finds itself ahead of ranked teams such as No. 12 Alabama, continues to be led by senior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) and freshman Garth McGee (Bangor, Northern Ireland). Power and McGee are both tied for 22nd, but the team's low rounds of the day came from sophomore Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland) and junior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England), both of whom posted scores of 2-under-par 70 on Monday.
Stewart is currently tied for 40th and Enoch is 46th on the leaderboard.
Third and final round action at the Puerto Rico Classic will conclude on Tuesday. ETSUBucs.com will provide a complete wrap up of the day's action.
