Davies makes move at Open, Enoch falls at British Amateur

Friday, June 18, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 18, 2010) - Former ETSU All American Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) made the cut for the first time in a major event Friday at the 2010 U.S. Open, carding a 1-under-par 70 to stand tied for 50th at 6-over 148 late in the day.

Davies, who also participated in the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 British Open, birdied four of the first 10 holes he played Friday before finishing the round with 11 pars, four birdies and three bogeys. Standing at 6-over for the tournament and nine strokes back of leader Graeme McDowell, Davies has earned the right to play in Saturday's third round and Sunday's fourth round.

The cutline at the Open was ultimately at 7-over.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic Ocean, current rising senior Rhys Enoch (Bridgend, Wales) watched his run at the British Amateur come to an end in the quarterfinals, falling 3 & 2 to Matthew Nixon Friday morning. Enoch's run also ended a strong showing by current and former Buccaneers, as ETSU placed three players in the final 32 at the event - including Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland) and former Buc Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland).
