ETSU baseball to host Stetson in final A-Sun homestand

Thursday, April 29, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 29, 2010) - The ETSU baseball team is set to host Stetson in the final Atlantic Sun home series starting Friday at 7 p.m. at Cardinal Park. The two teams will close out the series Saturday with a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.

The Bucs (23-18, 11-7 A-Sun) are coming off of a thrilling walk-off win in 13 innings over Tennessee Tech Wednesday night. ETSU will look to improve its 7-2 mark in weekend series including a 4-2 record in A-Sun series. Junior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) will have a chance to set the all-time career RBI mark against the Hatters after tying the school record with his 175th career RBI against the Golden Eagles.

ETSU is 4-10 all-time against Stetson, but the Buccaneers have had some success against SU at home sweeping them in 2006. The last time out, the Bucs defeated the Hatters 4-2 eliminating Stetson from the A-Sun Tournament.

The Hatters (24-19, 11-4 A-Sun) come into the weekend having won four-straight including a sweep of Lipscomb and a mid-week win over Bethune-Cookman. Stetson is led by junior outfielder Jeff Simpson who is second in the conference with a .412 average.

Friday is Blue Day at Cardinal Park as gates open at 5:30 p.m. and there will be free admission for all children, pre-game tours of Cardinal Park, a meet-and-greet session with the players, free food, inflatables, games, prizes and other family-oriented activities.

Blue Day is being held in conjunction with the April observation of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Its goal is to help prevent child abuse by raising awareness and support for the work going on locally to end it.
