#22 Oregon completes sweep of Bucs, 17-7

EUGENE, Ore. (May 16, 2010) - After taking a 5-0 lead in the first inning, the ETSU baseball team could not hold on as the Bucs were swept 17-7 by No. 22 Oregon Sunday afternoon at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.


Freshman Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was tabbed with the loss for the Bucs (29-24, 14-10 A-Sun) after giving up six runs on ten hits in 2.1 innings of relief to fall to 1-3 on the year.


Alex Keudell picked up the win for Oregon (34-18, 10-11 Pac-10) improving to 5-5. Keudell went 4.1 innings limiting the ETSU offense to one run on two hits.


Offensively for the Bucs, Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) led the way as Reeder was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Niesman had a team-best three hits and drove in two.


The Bucs scored five runs on five hits in the first including a two-run single by Reeder and a RBI double by Doane to take a 5-0 lead.


Oregon got on the board in the bottom of the first as Danny Pulfer came in to score on a double by Marcus Piazzisi to cut the ETSU lead to 5-1.


The Ducks scored three runs on four hits in the second highlighted by a RBI double by Eddie Rodriguez to make the score 5-4.


Reeder led off the third inning with a solo home run as he crushed his 19th homer of the season over the left field fence to extend the Buccaneer lead to 6-4.


In the bottom of the third, Oregon grabbed its first lead of the game scoring three runs on three hits including RBI doubles by Shawn Peterson and Curtin Raulinaitis to make the score 7-6 Ducks.


Oregon added a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Steven Packard to take an 8-6 advantage.


The Ducks added three insurance runs in the fifth on a Pulfer double, Rodriguez single and a double by Paul Eshleman to give Oregon a 11-6 lead.


ETSU cut the Ducks lead to 11-7 in the eighth as Niesman singled in Doane from third.


In the bottom of the eighth, Oregon added six runs highlighted by a three-run home run to right by Rodriguez to make the final 17-7. The home run by Rodriguez gave the catcher the cycle in the game.
