ETSU Baseball goes to bat for child abuse awareness

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 28, 2010) - The ETSU baseball team, Kappa Delta Sorority, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the 1st Judicial District Children's Advocacy Center  are teaming up to host the third annual Baseball Blue Day on April 30 as the Bucs host Stetson at Cardinal Park at 7 p.m.

Baseball Blue Day is being held in conjunction with the April observation of National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It's goal is to help prevent child abuse by raising awareness and support for the work going on locally to end it.

"We are very excited to be teaming up in the support of the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) for the third straight year," said head coach Tony Skole. "Our program has always been involved with the youth of our community, and this is for an outstanding cause that we are proud to be associated with."

"Our goal is to make sure our fans that evening will recognize the importance of learning about the prevention of child abuse and enjoy a good time with the Bucs," said Sara Hacker, marketing and promotions coordinator of ETSU athletics.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and there will be free admission for all children, pre-game tours of Cardinal Park, a meet-and-greet session with the players, free food, inflatables, games, prizes and other family-oriented activities.

"ETSU Blue Day is a fantastic annual event," said Tara Crowe Hodges, CAC Executive Director. "It is such an honor to partner with ETSU and our sponsors to provide a fun day of baseball and activities for children and their families. Blue Day also provides the opportunity for the CAC to share important information on the realities of child abuse and tips on how to keep kids safe."
