ETSU men's soccer to host Elon

Friday, September 18, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 18, 2009) - The ETSU men's soccer team is set to host Elon in a non-conference match Saturday at 3 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The Bucs (1-1-2) drew a 1-1 tie against Virginia Tech last Sunday to get back to .500 on the season. Sophomore Jaron Westbrook (Round Rock, Texas) leads the team in points (3) and game-winning goals (1).

The Buccaneers defeated Elon 1-0 on the road a year ago in the only meeting between the two teams. ETSU is 2-2-1 all-time against teams from the Southern Conference.

The Phoenix (2-2-1) come into the match with a two-game win streak after defeating Clemson on Wednesday, 2-0. Elon is led by Chris Thomas as he has a team leading two goals on the season.

Fans don't miss out on the opportunity to be a part of "Walk the Lawn vs. Elon" to benefit ETSU Habitat. Registration to participate in the first annual pre-game walk-a-thon is $15. This walk benefits ETSU Habitat for Humanity and provides resources for volunteers to help build homes. Registration includes an event t-shirt (as supplies last) and a free voucher for Saturday's soccer game.

The walk starts Saturday at 1:15 p.m. with the starting location and sign up's located at the Wesley Foundation on ETSU's campus. Participants will walk to the new ETSU Habitat home and finish up at Summers-Taylor Stadium for the ETSU Men's Soccer game vs. Elon. There will also be special recognitions at half-time of the game.
