MACON, Ga. (Oct. 8, 2009) - The ETSU men's soccer team dropped a heartbreak to first place Mercer as the Bucs lost in double overtime to the Bears on Thursday night at Bear Field in Macon, Ga., 1-0.

"We have again played well  dominating in possession, defending well and creating numerous chances," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "There is only one solution. We simply must convert our chances."

The Bucs (1-5-3, 0-1-1 A-Sun) outshot the Bears (4-4-2, 3-0-0 A-Sun) in the match 15-8 with seven shots coming on goal. ETSU also had the advantage in corners taking nine on the night, while Mercer only had one. Senior Scott Rosman (Kenner, La.) had three saves in the match for the Bucs.

In the first half, the Bucs dominated play as they held Mercer without a shot in the half, while taking seven shots of their own.

Mercer goal keeper Brett Petricek was busy in the half as the Bucs had three good scoring opportunities, but ETSU came away empty handed as the game remained scoreless at the break.

Both teams had good looks in the second half as the Bucs outshot Mercer 5-4 in the period. Neither team was able to get on the board in the half as the game remained 0-0 at the end of regulation.

In the first overtime period, freshman Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) had a good look, but Petricek was up to the challenge as he made a good save to send the game into a second overtime period.

Mercer got the game winner in the 107th minute as Richie Edmondson knocked a one-timer from Arkenson Neckles past Rosman into the net to make the final 1-0.

The Bucs are back in action on Saturday at 4 p.m. as they head to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on Campbell. For more information on Buccaneer men's soccer and all other Buccaneer athletic news, please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
