JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2009) - The ETSU men's soccer team scored three goals for the second straight match as the Bucs downed Florida Gulf Coast 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

"The guys played a tremendous game tonight," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "Its been the same effort and same level of play from the guys again. We have been pretty consistent, but the difference in today's game was that we finished our chances."

The Bucs (2-6-3, 1-2-1 A-Sun) outshot the Eagles 19-7 in the match, while FGCU had a 6-4 advantage in corners. Senior Scott Rosman (Kenner, La.) had one save in goal as he posted his third shutout of the season.

"We worked extremely hard over the last three weeks to improve our play in the final third," Calabrese said. "Over time now it has paid off as we scored a number of excellent goals tonight. In the end I am very proud of our team as this win has put us back in the hunt for the Atlantic Sun tournament. We will get some confidence from this match as we prepare for Stetson on Sunday."

The Bucs went ahead 1-0 in the 25th minute when Sean Hoek (Newburg, Ind.) knocked in his third goal of the season as freshman Theo Yang (Lilburn, Ga.) found Hoek wide open in front of the net. ETSU outshot FGCU 9-2 in the half as the Bucs took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.) put ETSU up 2-0 in the 53rd minute as he headed the cross from Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) past FGCU keeper Matthew Smith.

The Bucs didn't waste any time as Osorio netted his first career goal in the 57th minute as he blasted a pass from Conrad McCue (Round Rock, Texas) into the goal to put ETSU up 3-0.

The ETSU defense held on to keep the Eagles off the board in the match despite some late pressure from Florida Gulf Coast to make the final 3-0. The Bucs have played tough defensively limiting its opponents to less than ten shots for the fifth straight match, while only allowing a combined 13 shots on goal in the five contests.

The Bucs are back in action on Sunday at noon as they host Stetson at Summers-Taylor Stadium. For more information on Buccaneer men's soccer and all other Buccaneer athletic news, please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
