JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 28, 2009) - East Tennessee State University Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Barbie Breedlove learned Tuesday afternoon that she has been appointed by Atlantic Sun Commissioner Ted Gumbart to serve on the NCAA Division I Legislative Council.

Breedlove, who begins her duties on Thursday, will handle numerous responsibilities while serving on the Legislative Council. A brief rundown of these duties include:

  • Serve as the primary legislative authority
  • Take final action on matters delegated to it by the NCAA Board of Directors
  • Make interpretations of the bylaws
  • Review the recommendations of the substructure

In addition, part of the Council's job is to identify strengths and weaknesses of legislative proposals, consider waivers of legislation, identify interpretive issues and serve as an appellate body.

"I am pleased to be asked by Commissioner Gumbart to serve the Atlantic Sun Conference in this capacity as a member of the Legislative Council," said Breedlove. "I look forward to the legislative work and challenges that face all Division I institutions and I am excited to represent ETSU on a national level."
