Bucs set to open conference play against USC Upstate

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 7, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team is set to open Atlantic Sun conference play Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the Bucs host USC Upstate in Brooks Gym.

 

The Bucs (1-5) come into the match after picking up their first win of the season over Howard, 3-2, at the Liberty Invitational. ETSU is led by Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) and Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) as Long is tops on the team in hitting percentage (.400) with 33 kills on the season, while Youell has 169 assists and 32 kills.

 

ETSU leads the all-time series against the Spartans 4-3. In 2008, USC Upstate came in and defeated the Bucs in Brooks in a five-set match. The Bucs retook the series lead later in the season winning a five-set match in Spartanburg, S.C.

 

USC Upstate (3-4) has lost its last two matches getting swept by UNC Asheville after taking NC State to five-sets. The Spartans are led by Kelsie Queen who has 76 kills hitting .281 on the season.

 

Tuesday night is Buc Wild night at Brooks Gym as all active Buc Wild members are encouraged to come out to the match and earn double points. There will also be free CiCi's pizza for Buc Wild members in attendance.
