PACFIC PALISADES, Calif.  (Oct. 3, 2009) - After a long hard first-round win Saturday, ETSU senior tennis player Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) could not overcome both a unlucky draw and time as the defending Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year fell in second round action at the 2009 Riviera ITA All-American Championships on the campus of UCLA.

"Yevgeniya had tough draw both rounds today," said head coach Steve Brooks. "Both opponents she played today were more talented than most the players that competed in the entire pre-qualifying draw. With this being Stupak's senior year I'm still proud of how she represented ETSU in such a

prestigious event."

Stupak -- the No. 98th-ranked ITA singles player -- outlasted a tough opening round opponent in Columbia's Nicole Bartnik. In her first contest the ETSU captain played a number of long points, before closing out the match 6-2, 6-4.

After advancing to the Round of 32, the 15th seeded Lady Buc student-athlete held serve throughout the first seven games, for a 4-3 lead in the first set. After Wichita State's Lutflana Budiharto tied the match at 4-4, the Shocker sophomore rallied for a 6-4 first set win.

With both the momentum and rest on her side Budiharto crusied to a 6-0 second set victory.

"In the second match I think Stupak simply ran out of gas," said Brooks. "Budiharto is a great player and after we had the lead at 4-3, she was able to break Stupak's serve with some great shots from the baseline. Between a hard fought first round match and a number of long points in that first set I don't think Yevgeniya had the energy to push a hard return back to Budiharto. That ended up being the difference and once Budiharto found her groove, Yevgeniya couldn't overcome some lucky breaks and good shots."
