ETSU spirit squad set to add dance team

Thursday, October 15, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2009) - The ETSU spirit squad announced Thursday afternoon the Buccaneers are bringing back their dance team later this year. A mandatory informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4 for anyone interested in trying out for the Buccaneer squad. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on the west auxiliary basketball court located inside the Memorial Center.

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to resurrect the dance program at ETSU," commented ETSU Spirit Advisor Tammy Bartow. "The team, once selected, will showcase their talents at halftime of selected men's and women's basketball games. I hope many talented individuals come to our informational meeting and will become excited about this opportunity."

Individuals with a significant dance background and those who are willing to make the commitment to participate on the dance team are asked to attend the meeting on Nov. 4. During the 30-minute session, candidates will have an opportunity to ask questions and be informed of the selection process.

Following the informational meeting, tryouts will then take place on Monday, Nov. 16 on the west auxiliary court.

This opportunity is open to all current female ETSU students, with the goal of having a squad intact and ready to perform by mid-January.

"The department of athletics is excited to initiate a new dance team that will have an opportunity to perform at athletic events," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Barbie Breedlove.  "We believe adding a dance team to our spirit program can provide our fans with an even better game day experience. It will also provide several young ladies at ETSU a chance to pursue their passion of dance."
