Plans for funeral, scholarship fund, and Carillon ceremony announced

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 30, 2009) - As the news of the tragic death of ETSU sophomore center Seth Coy continued to spread throughout the area Thursday, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced plans to remember the fallen Buccaneer, while information was also released regarding funeral plans back in Coy's home of Washington, Ind.

Coy's family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Washington High School gymnasium, with funeral services to be held at the same location on Sunday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. For more on the arrangements, please visit Gill Funeral Home's website at gillsince1872.com, or the Washington Times Herald website at washtimesherald.com.

For those on the ETSU campus who will be unable to attend the funeral in Indiana, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will hold a brief memorial service Friday afternoon at the ETSU Foundation Carillon & Alumni Plaza on the west side of Dossett Hall beginning at 12:45 p.m. The Carillon will then sound a special funeral toll at 1 p.m. ETSU staff, students and fans are encouraged to attend this event.

Also, fans wishing to send condolences to the Coy family can do so by e-mailing those notes to Associate Athletic Director for Communications Michael White at whitem@etsu.edu. The e-mails will then be sent to Indiana with members of the team and administration representatives to be given to the family at the funeral.

In addition, ETSU Advancement and the Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association also announced Thursday that a new scholarship fund has been initiated in honor of Coy. The Seth Coy Memorial Scholarship Fund will begin accepting donations from those that would like to honor Coy's memory by helping future ETSU student-athletes reach their educational goals. Those wishing to contribute to the fund can send their donations to the Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association, P.O. Box 70707, Johnson City, TN., 37614, or call BASA at 423-439-8398.
