BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 25, 2009) - The ETSU baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped after falling to Virginia Tech Wednesday afternoon at English Field in Blacksburg, Va., 10-2.

Starter Ben Andrews (Leesburg, Fla.) pitched well for the Bucs going six innings allowing four runs (all unearned) on two hits and struck out two while not allowing a free pass.

The Hokies jumped out in front 3-0 in the bottom of the first on a Anthony Sosnoskie RBI double and a Steve Domecus two-run home run.

ETSU cut into the Virginia Tech lead in the top of the second as Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.)  singled to left brining in Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) to make the score 3-1. In the next at bat, Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) singled through the right side to score Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) to cut the lead to 3-2, Hokies.

Virginia Tech added another run in the bottom of the second on a Tony Balisteri grounder to second to make the score 4-2.

The Bucs had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Balisteri made a great play at second to throw out Fabry in a bang-bang play to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hokies increased their lead after scoring six runs on six hits to give Virginia Tech a 10-2 lead.

Trent led the Bucs offensively going 2-for-4 and scored a run, as ETSU was out-hit 9-6.

With the loss, the Bucs drop to 3-1 on the season and will host Rider Friday at 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park in the first game of a four-game series.
