ROCK HILL, S.C. (March 4, 2009) - The ETSU baseball team fell to Winthrop Wednesday afternoon at the Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C., 8-4.
The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the first as Kevin Nolan singled in a run to make the score 1-0. Winthrop added another run on an Eddie Rohan grounder to third to extend the lead to 2-0.
Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) got the Bucs (4-2) on the board in the top of the fifth as he brought in Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) on a single to left center to cut the Eagle lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Winthrop added to its lead driving in four runs on five hits to make the score 6-1 Eagles.
Rohan added two more insurance runs for the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh on a double down the left field line to increase the Winthrop lead to 8-1.
ETSU cut into the lead in the top of the eighth as Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) came in to score on a Danny Petro (Atlanta, Ga.) liner through the right side to make the score 8-2.
Hoilman added another run in the top of the ninth as he drove in Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) on a grounder to first to cut the lead to 8-3. In the next at bat Fabry came in to score on a passed ball to make the final 8-4.
Fabry led ETSU offensively going 2-for-4 with a double and drove in a run.
