ASHEVILLE, N.C. (March 17, 2009) -The ETSU baseball team ended a five-game losing streak Tuesday night as the Bucs defeated UNC Ashville at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C., 3-2.

Freshman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) pitched well for the Bucs earning a complete game win allow only two runs on five hits to pick up his second win of the season.

Reeder helped his own cause putting the Bucs up early in the top of the first as he singled through the left side to bring in Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) to make the score 1-0 ETSU. Later in the inning, Chris Rankhorn (Gallatin, Tenn.) came in to score as Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) was hit by a pitch to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Bulldogs cut into the lead in the bottom of the first as they scored a run came on a Reed Kreiser sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, UNC Asheville tied the game at 2-all as Kreiser homered to center.

Scruggs put the Bucs back in front, 3-2, as he singled up the middle scoring Hoilman in the top of the sixth.

UNC Asheville threatened in the eighth and ninth innings, but good defensive plays by Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Cory Betterson (Atlanta, Ga.) kept the Bulldogs off of the board as Betterson ended the game on a diving catch in right to make the final 3-2.

ETSU was led offensively by Rankhorn and Reeder as they both had two hits for the Bucs. Allen also had two hits in the game.

The Bucs are back in action Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they host Appalachian State at Cardinal Park. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
