Monday, March 30, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 30, 2009) - The ETSU baseball team is set to host in-state rival Tennessee Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Cardinal Park.

The Bucs (12-11, 5-7 A-Sun) have won seven of their last name games including going 3-1 last week. ETSU took two out of three this past weekend against Mercer winning its second straight weekend series. The Bucs are led offensively by senior Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) as he leads the team hitting .380 on the season. ETSU has won four of its last six meetings against the Vols including a 2008 series sweep.

Tennessee (11-15, 1-8 SEC) was swept by top ranked Georgia this past weekend. The Vols are led by Blake Forsythe and Josh Liles. As a team Tennessee has pounded out 50 doubles, six triples and 38 home runs on the season.

ETSU fans will be treated to an exciting softball/baseball doubleheader on Tuesday, as the Lady Buccaneers host the ACC defending champions Virginia Tech at 5 p.m. over at the new Softball Stadium. In part of the festivities, the ETSU Department of the Athletics will be treating its Buccaneer Athletic Scholarship Association (BASA) members with a BBQ at the softball contest and dessert over at baseball. BASA members are asked to bring their membership cards to both events. Fans who would are not members of BASA and would like to sign up can call 439-8398 or register at either game. In addition, ETSU students can sign up at baseball for a chance to win a $50 gift card courtesy of Kroger. There will also be a seperate gate set up for season ticket holders and students to help fans get into the park in a timely manor.
