JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 19, 2008) - The ETSU men's soccer team defeated King College in an exhibition match Tuesday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium, 2-0.

The Bucs took an early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when David Haba (Germantown, Tenn.) knocked the rebound off of an Andrew Brown (Montego Bay, Jamaica), shot into the back of the net. Later in the first half, Tyler Hoek (Newburgh, Ind.) added another goal on a great free kick as he curled the ball into the goal past the King goalkeeper in the 40th minute to increase the ETSU lead to 2-0.

The King Tornado put some pressure on the Bucs in the second half, but the ETSU defense played tough to preserve the shutout.

"It was a good opportunity for our boys to get to play their first college game, and get a feel for how physical, tough and fast it can be," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "For them it is their first experience, but going into UNC Asheville we will need to be physically tougher and play much quicker."

ETSU outshot King 19-11, and had the advantage in corners 4-2. Cade Jones (Athens, Ga.) had the lone ETSU save, while King goalkeeper Justin Morrell had four saves as the Bucs kept him busy all night.

The Bucs are back in action this Saturday as they head to Asheville, N.C. for an exhibition match against UNC Asheville before heading home to face Appalachian State on Aug. 29 in the season opener.
